Bidding Wars on Homes Hold Steady in July, With Over Half of Redfin Offers Facing Competition

54% of Redfin offers faced bidding wars last month amid record-low mortgage rates and an acute shortage of homes for sale. Salt Lake City was the most competitive market, with 75% of offers encountering competition.

More than half of Redfin home offers faced competition in July for the third month in a row. Nationwide, 54% of Redfin offers encountered bidding wars last month, down slightly from June’s revised rate of 56%.

25% of Homebuyers Are Moving Because of the Pandemic

Low mortgage rates, spending more time at home and working from home are driving forces for people moving due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

Three-quarters of homebuyers say the coronavirus pandemic has impacted their homebuying plans, according to a survey of more than 1,000 people who are planning to buy a home within the next 12 months conducted by Redfin from July 19-21.
