Classic canvas invites new owner to inject their own style

The three-level duplex at 8 Petersen Ave, Southport is on the market for $1.1 million.

IT’S been a productive few years for Gold Coast owner-builders Roseanna and Steve Gillespie.

The couple had been running a building company doing client work before they decided to concentrate solely on building their own products.

In the past two and a half years, the Gillespies have built six duplexes in one street: 1-2,/13 Deauville Drive; 1-2/15 Deauville Dr; 17 Deauville Drive; and 8 Petersen Ave, which is on the market for $1.1 million.

The owner-builders have opted for a timeless design at 8 Petersen Ave, Southport.

“They’re all very different, we don’t like the cookie-cutter approach,” Mrs Gillespie said. “All three pairs have a different design as I think that adds value to the area.”

The duplexes are located within The Southport School precinct and offer easy access to nearby parks, cafes, childcare and Ferry Road Markets.

Occupying a corner position, 8 Petersen Ave is a modern home with four bedrooms, three bathrooms and views of the city skyline and Hinterland.

Rather than jumping on current trends, the Gillespies draw on years of renovating and building experience to create designs that are modern yet timeless.

“All of our products are designed with the idea that people can come in and add
their own touch, either with paint or through their choice of furniture and decor,” Mrs Gillespie said.

The classic palette leaves room for the new owner to inject their own style.

Oak herringbone flooring, white VJ walls and black accents create a classic look inside the Petersen Ave duplex.

Set over three levels, the home has an impressive footprint of 361sq m offering more floor area that many houses in the area.

A feature wall in the bathroom adds some wow factor.

The size makes the property suitable for a range of buyers, including families, retirees who want room for family to visit or even professionals wanting space without the maintenance.

“Ultimately, it would be ideal for a family with a couple of kids as there’s room for everyone to do their own thing,” Mrs Gillespie said. “Having kids ourselves and having lived in the duplexes, the design has been refined with each new build.”

The kitchen features Smegg appliances and soft close cupboards.

The couple has now shifted their attention to a new house build nearby in Southport, but would love to remain on Deauville Dr.

“It’s so quiet here and suits us perfectly,” Mrs Gillespie said. “The next move is always an unknown when you marry a builder.”

The duplex is being marketed by Glen Williams, Ray White Prestige – Surfers Paradise.
