Ocean Grove luxury beachfront home sells for record price

A luxury beachfront home has set an Ocean Grove record.

The home with uninterrupted ocean views from Point Lonsdale to the Barwon Heads Bluff has sold for close to its $6.7m to $7.37m price hopes after a four-and-a-half week campaign.

The contract went unconditional on Friday and the buyers will take the keys in mid February.

Sea views are front and centre at this Ocean Grove house.


Spanning three expansive levels, the six-bedroom house at 58-60 Hodgson Street has multiple living zones, an underground eight-car garage; a swimming pool, gym, temperature-controlled cellar and a large terrace.

RT Edgar Barwon Heads agent Candace Smith said a Macedon Ranges family with property ties to the coastal town had secured the property.

“They’re upgrading — they’re a really close family with older children and grandchildren, so it will be a new holiday home for their extended family which they are excited about,” she said.


“They spend a lot of time there and have always wanted to have a home in that area and fortunately enough they can now.

“We had a lot of people inquiring on the property and commenting on it, saying they wanted to see what it looked like because it is one of Ocean Grove’s iconic homes.”

Ms Smith said the vendors spared no expense importing tiles and fittings to recreate the feel of a “wow factor” Italian villa when the built the home eight years ago.

She said all you could hear from the terrace overlooking the sea was the ocean.

“Obviously the location is absolutely incredible and the beauty of it is that you can’t be built out,” Ms Smith told the Addy in December.

The campaign flushed out plenty of interest, though the buyers made the only formal offer.

“We had a number of inspections, but for some people they loved it but it was just too big for them,” she said.

A marble waterfall benchtop is the centrepiece of the kitchen.


“There are some beautiful high end properties along that coastline but I certainly think this gives a lot of them a run for its money.”

Ms Smith said the current owner planned to build a smaller home nearby.

Marble tiling and waterfall benchtops, integrated appliances and European oak floorings feature inside the house.

The terrace is perfect for parties.


The central level is made for entertaining, with an open-plan kitchen, dining and living room offering views across the terrace to the sea, while a second loungeroom overlooks the pool.

The ground floor has another self-contained living space with a kitchenette, four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a laundry, home gym and the garage.

The garage is pretty flash and even has a window into the swimming pool.


Another modern house less than a block away at 91 Orton Street became Ocean Grove’s most expensive sale when it traded for $6.3m in March last year.
