One of Palm Beach’s best known houses, known as The Priory, and located opposite Jonah’s Restaurant in Bynya Rd has come to market this week with a guide of $8.5 million.
The 1930s sandstone home is on a 1460sqm double block, is private and resort-like and at the peak of the season rents out at $25,000 a week.
Owner David Brown said families from Mosman and Vaucluse made up most of his clients, and were wanting a family holiday in a stylish home with views.
The property ticks all those boxes, with four bedrooms, five bathrooms, an infinity pool, a sun terrace and a state-of-the art kitchen.
“I am sure a few celebrities have stayed there but they are careful how they book, the property is private and hidden from the road. You would never know they were there,” Mr Brown said.
Neighbouring Jonah’s is no stranger to hosting celebrities, and last month celebrated its 92nd birthday.
Over the decades it has seen a variety of VIPs at both the hatted restaurant and boutique hotel, including Lord Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Joan Collins, members of the Royal Family of Monaco, Elle Macpherson, Mick Jagger, Bono, Rod Stewart, Justin Bieber, Rachel Griffiths, One Direction, Queen, Sam Smith, and Brian Johnson.
Laura Mears, of Belle Property Avalon, said the landmark property had multiple indoor and outdoor entertaining areas and all the style of a grand mansion.
The formal lounge with sandstone fireplace is particularly beautiful.
The Priory is for sale by expressions of interest closing Wednesday March 3.
